Renewable Energy Sources of Croatia is organizing the first RE-Source Croatia conference, which will be held on March 17, 2023, at the Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb. This is the first conference in the region dedicated to PPA contracts on the purchase of green energy directly from producers. It is organized in cooperation with the European RE-Source platform, of which OIEH is a partner.

The development of PPA contracts is extremely important and the European Commission believes that they should play a central role in Europe’s strategy for achieving the goals of the Green Plan in the field of renewable energy sources and climate. Energy-intensive industries, medium and small businesses, cities, and municipalities are intensively researching ways to decarbonize their energy consumption. Many companies in the world cover up to 100% of their energy needs through PPA contracts, ensuring supply with a defined fixed price of electricity for several years.
The revision of the European electricity market places special emphasis on the development of PPA contracts. The need to make them more accessible to all consumers, including small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as civic initiatives that may not have such a large energy consumption that they should directly sign a PPA contract, is becoming more and more obvious.
Therefore, our goal at this conference is to show the possibility of developing PPA contracts in business organizations and communities and to share examples of good practices and suggestions for the better development of PPAs.
This conference will bring information on what PPA contracts are, what conditions need to be met in order to sign such a contract in Croatia and in the region, and how their development can change the energy picture of Europe. After the introductory presentation on PPA contracts in the EU, which will be held by Stefano Miriello from RE-Source Platform, the participants of the first panel will explain how a successful PPA is created in Croatia. The central part of the conference is dedicated to advanced models for the development of these contracts, and representatives of civic initiatives, industry and entrepreneurship will explain how to make these contracts accessible to everyone. Naomi Chevillard from SolarPower Europe will show how the revision of the EU electricity market could help the availability of these contracts to small and medium-sized enterprises companies and ultimately citizens. The last panel will introduce the possibilities of cross-border PPA contracts with international and domestic participants.
The conference will gather representatives of national and international institutions, consultants, lawyers, buyers and producers of renewable energy, representatives of the financial sector, and representatives of civic and European initiatives.
RES Croatia is the partner and national hub of the RE-Source platform, a place of knowledge and meeting of stakeholders of renewable energy sources dedicated to the development of PPA contracts. On this occasion, Malgosia Bartosik, coordinator of the RE-Source Platform, said:

Effective collaboration between the green energy buyers and sellers, as well as local authorities, will be key to pushing this ambitious goal forward.“
The energy crisis requires innovative approaches to solving the problem of high electricity prices. It is now very clear that only the development of domestic, green, safe energy leads to energy self-sufficiency. PPA contracts enable domestic consumers and producers of renewable energy to connect through a joint venture, through a mutual project of creating a new RES project, and in that way approach banks. Everyone benefits from this arrangement, including RES producers, consumers, financial institutions, and the state.
