The Solar Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the RESC signed a memorandum of cooperation

Driven by a common desire to strengthen and develop collaboration in the field of renewable energy sources, Maja Pokrovac, the director of OIEH, and Senad Šepić, the director of the Solar Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, signed a memorandum of cooperation at the recent Sarajevo Energy Forum.

Through this agreement, RESC and the Solar Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina have decided to enhance regional connectivity and exchange experiences in project development, share data and information, collaborate on analyses, establish stronger technical cooperation, and distribute publications and promotional materials related to renewable energy sources. Strong cooperation is essential for the entire region to achieve energy independence and self-sufficiency, with a greater focus on the use of renewable energy sources, before the set goals. Therefore, RESC and the Solar Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina will support each other within European and other international organizations in the renewable energy sector.

The first Solar Academy in Bosnia and Herzegovina provides businesses with the opportunity to engage in solar industry projects, while individuals receive modern training and requalification for the most promising solar jobs of the decade. The Solar Academy’s goal is to train the first generations of qualified solar installers and technicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina, meeting the demands of this rapidly growing market.

“We greatly value the collaboration and experience of our friends and partners from Croatia, both as a neighboring country and as a member of the European Union. By signing the Cooperation Agreement between our two organizations, OIE Croatia and the Solar Academy, we are bringing our two countries closer together and assisting the economy and institutions in the faster and easier development of renewable energy projects. Bosnia and Herzegovina, like Croatia and other countries in the region, has tremendous potential in this field, and our cooperation will undoubtedly help create a better framework for attracting investments and driving the entire region forward. These have been the main conclusions of the recent Sarajevo Energy Forum held in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” stated Senad Šepić, President of the Solar Academy and organizer of the Sarajevo Energy Forum – SEF 2023, prior to the signing of the Agreement.

Maja Pokrovac, RESC Managing director, emphasized that fostering collaboration in the development of renewable energy sources (RES) in the region is one of the key goals of RESC.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina has recognized the significance of investing in renewable energy sources and is achieving new successes every day by adding more renewable megawatts. Developers and investors who are members of OIEH are closely monitoring investment opportunities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are ready to cooperate with our partners from the Solar Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina to create a higher-quality, more transparent, and stronger OIE sector. Croatia’s previous experiences can be of great assistance in this endeavor, which is why OIEH is recognized throughout the region as a hub for knowledge, experience, and support. We have contributed to the establishment of the OIE Association in Serbia and the strengthening and reorganization of the Slovenian Photovoltaic Association. We are delighted to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the Solar Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which opens up numerous opportunities for regional and international engagement. Thanks to the potential of renewable energy sources, the entire region can become a green megawatt exporter and significantly position itself on the world’s energy map. OIEH believes that Croatia can achieve this by 2030, and we hope the region will follow suit. We will certainly support all our partners in achieving this goal.”

In the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there were a total of 451 electro-energy facilities in the support system for electricity production from renewable energy sources in the previous year. These facilities primarily used solar energy, hydropower, and wind energy as sources. The total electricity production from renewable energy sources from these facilities in 2022 amounted to 2,103 MWh. Further incentives for the development of renewable energy sources will come from a new set of reform laws in the energy sector.
