‘Croatia has the opportunity to assert itself as the frontrunner in new technologies and clean industries’

What are the potentials of the Green plan in our economy and how can EU funds assist us in the process, were among the topics of the hybrid conference Green Plan – an opportunity for energy development in Croatia, held on March 30, in the organization of Poslovni Dnevnik. The participants at the video conference included, among other, members of the Renewable Energy Sources of Croatia (OIEH) at two-panel discussion: ‘The role of energy companies in the implementation of the Green Plan goals’ and ‘The need for a multi-disciplinary approach and sector connectivity in the achievement of the Green Plan’.

Maja Pokrovac director of OIEH pointed out that the economy should lean on domestic renewable sources already used by two-thirds of the world because they are cheaper than fossil fuels. “The Green Wave, along with preserving the planet, will enable companies to begin working with new, innovative products that are based on clean technologies. We cannot think only in terms of sectors, they must come together and work jointly on the Green plan”.

Stjepan Talan, the owner the Solvis company from Varaždin which came in the focus of public attention due to cooperation with Google, emphasized that there was no innovation without multidisciplinarity.  “Most of the money from EU Funds should be used for the reindustrialization of Europe which was extinguished in the last decades almost completely and left it with hardly any production. We have been producing solar panels for ten years now and have felt on our own skin the deindustrialization of Croatia and Europe.”

Ante Renić, from the company VSB Renewable Energy Croatia pointed out that every sector differs and has its own problems, but multidisciplinarity is inevitable.  “It is impossible to function in energy production and implement an energy project without the cooperation of legal, design, consulting, engineering, transportation, financial and a number of other experts. For us, the most important thing is the stability and proactive approach of legislation so that large projects can be developed”, Renić pointed out.
