Mirna Mazija: Renewable energy sources emerged from the idea of protecting nature, not the other way around
“Development of renewable energy sources while preserving nature and the environment – practice, challenges, solutions” was one of the topics discussed at the recently held three-day conference in Split, Renewable Energy Days 2025. The topic is certainly interesting since it applies equally to investors in the development of energy capacities, as well as advocates of nature protection who do not want the environment to pay unnecessarily for such development, even if it involves renewable sources. Mirna Mazija , a PhD in biology and director of the company Supernatural from Zagreb, who primarily researches bats, also contributed to the discussion, and applies the results in assessing the impact of the construction and development of renewable energy projects, primarily wind and solar power plants, on the environment… Read more
European Commission: Croatia must speed up the energy transition and the development of RES
In its latest set of recommendations for member states, the European Commission has called on Croatia to accelerate the implementation of reforms and investments under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and cohesion programmes, with a particular focus on the energy sector. One of the key recommendations concerns high electricity prices for businesses, which should be reduced by accelerating the development of renewable energy projects and by connecting them to the electricity grid more quickly and efficiently. It also calls for the modernisation and strengthening of the transmission and distribution grid, as well as investments in electricity storage systems, which are key to the stability of the system in the face of growing generation from variable sources such as solar and wind. The recommendation also includes the accelerated roll-out of smart meters… Read more
World Environment Day: The problem of plastics and the importance of renewable energy
On World Environment Day, Green Action said that it is crucial for Croatia to support the adoption of the Global Plastics Agreement, in the context of the pressing problem of plastic pollution, while Greenpeace stressed the importance of renewable energy sources, which was also highlighted by WWF. Greenpeace Croatia Executive Director Zoran Tomić said that on World Environment Day they want to emphasize the importance of renewable energy sources. – Croatia must use its comparative advantages, but also ensure that the welfare of society always comes before the short-term interests of individuals. Gas projects and nuclear energy are neither our comparative advantage nor the interest of the wider society, renewable sources certainly are, said Tomić… Read more
The energy community is changing the way we live and consume energy.
Construction has begun in Copenhagen on Denmark’s largest energy community – a project that will combine dozens of solar rooftops and a shared energy storage system. The project is located in Faelledby, a new residential area that will be home to approximately 6,000 residents by the end of 2025, including those in subsidized housing. Through a model of local production, sharing and consumption of electricity, the community will use around 70% of the energy produced locally, while storing the excess in a shared 4.5 MWh battery. The entire system, from production to billing, will be managed by a single operator, ensuring simplicity and efficiency. This community represents the first scalable combination of solar technology, architecture and citizen participation – exactly what the energy transition requires today… Read more
