Following the successful first RE-Source Croatia conference, which gathered more than 350 participants from Croatia and neighboring countries in Zagreb this March, we are proud to announce the 2nd Conference dedicated to the development of PPA contracts.
At the conference, experts from the private and public sectors, legal, energy, and banking sectors will discuss the possibilities of PPA contracts.
A PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) contract is nothing but an electricity purchase agreement between two corporations – those who need electricity and those who produce it, but from renewable sources.
Such contracts are extremely important for the entire energy system, and everyone benefits from them, so it’s no surprise that there is a great interest in PPA contracts since our last conference.
And how does PPA work? Companies that are large consumers of electricity sign long-term contracts to purchase electricity at pre-agreed prices with renewable energy producers. This allows producers of energy from renewable sources to securely sell the electricity produced, and buyers to have a secure supply of green energy at a previously agreed price. In this way, companies can more easily plan their annual costs without worrying about crises like the ones we have witnessed in recent years.
It is often the case that the energy buyer negotiates with the producer to construct new renewable energy projects, thus participating together in their financing.
Banking sector representatives at the first RE-Source Croatia conference confirmed that almost exclusively all requests for financing new renewable energy projects are indeed PPA contracts.
Therefore, the European Commission in its revision of the electricity market model gives them an extremely important role in expanding renewable energy projects in Europe.
